An 85-year-old holidaymaker from Germany died in an accident in Damüls in the Bregenzerwald on Friday.
The woman had gone for a walk and never returned. She was found dead in a creek bed in the early hours of Saturday morning following an eight-hour search. The police confirmed a corresponding report from ORF Vorarlberg.
Crashed 180 meters
The woman had been vacationing in the village for decades and was considered to know the area. When she did not return to her accommodation on Friday, her landlord first searched for her in vain and then initiated the rescue chain. According to the mountain rescue operations manager, the woman probably slipped and fell regarding 180 meters over steep terrain into the so-called Plattentobel. Around 120 people from Damüls and surrounding communities were involved in the search operation.
