After update, Edge has problem opening downloaded files

Recent updates to Microsoft Edge have an issue where the browser no longer allows you to open a downloaded file with a single click. Instead, users have to click two or even three times before the item opens.

Although it seems like a small issue, it can cause irritation and disruption to the user experience, especially since the bug is intermittent, ranging from two to several times to open a file.

The ability to customize whether opening files and folders requires one or two clicks in Windows does not affect downloads in Microsoft Edge. The bug appears to have been introduced in version 120 of the browser and persists in newer versions, including version 121 of the stable channel.

A frustrated user conducted an investigation which found that the problem arose from version 120 of Microsoft Edge. Rolling back to version 119 temporarily resolves the situation until a newer version is installed.

Microsoft is expected to release a fix soon, similar to what it did with another bug that was allegedly causing the browser to steal data from other browsers. In the meantime, users can work around the issue by opening their downloads from the “edge://download” page or clicking quickly multiple times.
