3rd e-Copa São Paulo reached its final on 4/2 with more than 25 thousand attendances

Last Sunday (04), Complexo Gamer, in São Paulo, was the stage for the final of the 3rd e-Copa São Paulo, an event organized by the capital’s City Hall, through the Sports Secretariat, in partnership with the São Paulo Recreation Association, Sports and Leisure (Aprel). The championship brought together more than 25 thousand attendances and 96 finalists among children and teenagers in the finals in e-sports disputes, totaling more than 200 hours played.

Final disputes of the 3rd e-Cup had the participation of 96 finalists and crowned the champions of Just Dance, Fortnite and Grand Turismo

The tournament was designed to bring electronic games featured in the Olympics to needy communities. Throughout the competition, the gamer trailer, equipped with ten PCs for Fortnite, six complete cockpits for Grand Turismo and two dance stations for Just Dance, was present at CEU Água Azul, in the East region; CEU Uirapuru, in the West region and CEU Paraisópolis, in the South region.

“The E-Copa event is a unique opportunity to promote integration among young people through electronic sports, encouraging healthy competitiveness and team spirit”, Paulo Sérgio Fernandes, member of APREL.

Weber Matias, special advisor to the Municipal Department of Sports and Leisure (SEME), highlights that the e-Copa São Paulo is part of the administration’s commitment to offering more opportunities for young people and increasingly serving the outskirts. “We started e-sports activities shortly following the pandemic and, due to the success of these events, we chose to expand actions to develop the skills of children and teenagers in e-sports. This way, they have the opportunity to access games and activities that are not part of their routine”, he highlights.

Winners

In the finals, the four best players per community were initially classified, in each of the three games, totaling 12 finalists per region. The remaining places were occupied by the best global results, regardless of the community and, finally, the champions: on Just Dance, Vanderlei Previato Junior, 23 years old; at Gran Tursimo, Antony Gomes da Silva, 20 years old.

A resident of Penha (East Zone), Vanderlei Junior stated that he discovered Just Dance in 2022 and that, without access to the game, he watches the videos to practice and memorize the sequences. When he finds opportunities like in the e-Copa, he plays and looks for victory. “Events like these are great for meeting new people and revealing the talents of the community. We have a lot of players on the periphery who need opportunities like this,” he says.

Antony Gomes da Silva, resident of Taipas, in Jardim Paulistano (West Zone), and Gran Turismo champion, shares the same opinion. “Although the dream of becoming a professional e-sports athlete involves many young people, the reality is far from children on the periphery. Therefore, initiatives like the e-Copa make a difference.”

Inclusion

For the members of the Favela Gamer project, MH (Matheus Lopes) and Cris Maluf, who helped mobilize young people for the competition, actions with a greater purpose help to take children off the streets and show a reality that is not linked to violence , but rather to friendship and the exchange of information.

“These are children from different parts of São Paulo who never had the chance to be part of an organization and structure of this size”, highlights Maluf. “They are poor, from areas that are often violent, so these events show that there are other paths and allow them to get to know other people, regions, exchange information and expand their knowledge regarding the world. This partnership is great and important for all of us”, says MH.
