Blue Mars: Colorectal Cancer Awareness and Prevention Event in Quimperlé

2024-02-16 18:00:02

Taking up the principles of Pink October, but dedicated to the prevention of colorectal cancer, Blue Mars will take place in Quimperlé with a day of awareness and prevention, Saturday March 30, in the Cordiers room. The event is prepared by the CPTS (territorial professional health community) which wishes to promote screening. “It is the third most common cancer in number of cases, but if it is detected early, it is cured nine times out of ten. Screening is done from the age of 50 by taking a stool sample,” explains Jean-Christophe Denis, medical biologist and secretary of the CPTS of Quimperlé. In Brittany, only 32% of those over 50 have carried out this test.

March 30 will be an opportunity to raise awareness of Blue Mars. “The goal is to encourage people to get tested but there will be no screening that day. It will be a day to explain colorectal cancer and desecrate the test which is done by oneself in a very simple way. There will be various activities, sports. We have a fun approach to prevention. We need to lift the taboos and we need to simply talk regarding it,” explains Cécile Henné, CPTS coordinator responsible for preparing this sport-health event.

Upstream, the CPTS travels through local markets. It will be present next week on the Locunolé and Quimperlé markets. Furthermore, it remains open to associations who wish to participate in this free event open to all. Several clubs are already involved in promoting physical activity.
