“Even following every accusation, arrest and witch hunt, you never left my side,” the message read.
Stormy Daniels claims she had sex with Trump in 2006, shortly following the birth of Melania’s son Barron Trump, a claim Trump denies, despite arranging to pay Daniels $130,000 not to speak during of the 2016 elections.
Nor is this Trump’s only legal trouble—or the product of what he claims is a witch hunt mounted by his enemies—to do with sex.
Last month, Trump found himself on the wrong end of an $83.3 million judgment in a defamation case stemming from a rape allegation by author E Jean Carroll that the judge called “substantially true.”
Carroll said Trump assaulted her in a New York department store dressing room in the mid-1990s. In one deposition, Trump memorably mistook a photo of Carroll for a photo of Marla Maples, his second wife.
And yet, despite all that, when it comes to his current wife—and the issue of campaign fundraising—Trump remains a decided softie.
Entitled “This is a Valentine’s Day letter from Donald J Trump”, the message sent on Wednesday began: “Dear Melania. I love you!”
“Even following every accusation, arrest and witch hunt, you never left my side. You always supported me in everything. I would not be the person I am today without your guidance, kindness and warmth. You will always mean the world to me, Melania! From your loving husband, Donald J. Trump”.
I don’t know if Donald Trump actually wrote this heartfelt fundraising valentine to Melania for sticking by him through his indictments, but signing it “Donald J. Trump” at least makes it plausible. pic.twitter.com/hQrcFIoef5

Recipients who clicked on one of three big red invitations to “send love” were directed to a page that offered the chance to send a “personalized message” to Melania — and donate to Trump’s campaign in amounts ranging from from $20.24 to $3,300.
Melania Trump recently reappeared in public with her husband following an absence believed to be related to the death of her mother, Amalia Knaves, last month. Donald Trump recently told Fox News that his wife also “wants to make America great once more” and that she will “play a big role” in his campaign to return to power.
“I think she’s going to be very active in the sense of being active,” Trump added.
