The Brussels criminal court on Friday handed down a five-year prison sentence, with a probationary suspension, once morest SG, a 26-year-old former Antwerp teacher, who sexually assaulted several minor boys. The victims include the man’s students and boys he was supposed to care for as a boarding school educator. Several victims were particularly vulnerable due to their autism spectrum disorder or attention deficit disorder.

It was the father of one of the victims who discovered what was happening when he surprised his son in the bushes with SG in December 2021. The father initially thought it was also a minor, but a few months later the 13-year-old boy admitted it was one of his teachers.

The investigation revealed that the 20-year-old had approached several underage boys, both as a teacher at the school and when working as an educator at the boarding school, and through social media. It involved exchanging photos and videos, but several victims also had physical contact. No less than 4,000 Facebook profiles of underage boys were found on his computer.

“The feeling of guilt and shame is great”

For the defense, “the feeling of guilt and shame are great”, stressing that the man has been following “therapy with a psychologist for two years and has found another job where “he is not in contact with minors” and that an effective prison sentence would compromise all that.

The prosecution had requested a sentence of five years’ imprisonment, including two years with a probationary suspension, but the court granted a suspension for the entire prison sentence. SG will also have to compensate its victims and undergo full treatment.
