We’re a little skeptical that sales of Alan Wake 2 are up, since Remedy didn’t impress fans with the typical X million units sold announcement weeks following release. That number was further boosted when Remedy had to postpone its latest financial report, leaving fans worried that the game would be less of a commercial success.
This seems to make some sense, because while Remedy has confirmed Alan Wake 2 is its fastest-selling game yetbut it has only shipped 1.3 million units, of which 1 million will be shipped before the end of 2023.
Remedy even said that sales of AW2 increased by 50% in the first two months and the number of digital copies (it is a purely digital game) more than tripled compared to what Control achieved in the first four months.
Remedy CEO Tero Virtala said : “We’re delighted that sales of Alan Wake 2 have begun. The price point has also remained high, and the game has recouped a significant portion of its development and marketing expenses. We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players, and Hopefully the game will continue to sell well.
Remedy further states that “A great game can generate great long-tail sales, and we expect the same for Alan Wake 2 . We’ll see the further impact of this when the game’s two paid DLCs arrive, as well as further updates to support the game. Whether it can eventually reach Control’s current 4 million units remains to be seen.
