“Article 5, the commitment to defend all and according to which an attack on one ally will be considered an attack on all, is the heart and core of NATO. This applies to all Allies. Any suggestion that we are not there to protect and defend all Allies will undermine the security of all of us by endangering the lives of our soldiers who are on the front lines to protect the entire Alliance,” Jens Stoltenberg stressed.
He also stated that “we need to invest more and we are on the right track. Because we now have historic numbers in terms of defense investment. Last year, we saw a real 11% increase in defense spending across Europe and Canada.”
“This year we expect 18 Allies to achieve the goal of spending 2% of GDP on defense,” the NATO Secretary General underlined.
