The trigger for the criticism is that Zadic did not comply with the ÖVP’s request for files on the Styrian FPÖ financial affair.
“The Minister of Justice must not allow FPÖ leader Kickl to sweep the internal party financial scandal surrounding Mario Kunasek under the carpet with personal gain,” said Andreas Hanger, parliamentary group leader of the People’s Party in the investigative committee. After all, there are several million euros in damage caused by “systematic misuse of funding, dubious club construction and the shifting of cash flows into private pockets”. Zadic is required to “speak out and make the necessary files available to parliament,” says Hanger.
Not the subject of the investigation
The relevant files would “exclusively deal with actions by state and local bodies,” according to the justification from the Ministry of Justice in a letter to the chairman of the U-Committee, National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (VP). However, the subject of the investigation by the U-Committee requested by the ÖVP is explicitly limited to groups of people who are attributable to federal enforcement.
