The National Yerba Mate Institute (INYM) postponed the special session to determine the prices of green leaf and yerba mate, setting the date for February 29. The original meeting lacked a quorum due to the absence of representatives from the industry and the Province of Corrientes. The productive sector seeks consensus amid growing pressure for an increase of around 100% in raw material prices.

Marcelo Hacklander, member of the INYM board for the productive sector, explained that the lack of representation from the industry and the province in the initial session led to the decision to reschedule the meeting for the last Thursday of February. The producing area had already agreed on a unanimous price of $505, based on a cost grid.

In mid-January, the Civil Association of Northern Herbal Producers (Acpyn) submitted a request to the INYM to update the prices of green leaf and yerba mate, arguing the significant increase in costs since the end of last year.

The current prices, established in November, are $210 per kilo of green leaf and $798 per kilo of grass until the end of January. From February 1 to February 29, the proposed prices are $240 and $912, respectively. In March, the prices are requested to be $250 for green leaf and $950 for dried grass.

Last week, directors of the INYM met with the Secretary of Industry, Juan Pazo, to address issues related to the operation of the organization affected by DNU 70/2023 of President Javier Milei. Pazo assured that, in case of lack of unanimity in the price session, The Nation will issue the corresponding ruling, analyzing in detail the cost grid to determine the values of the raw materials.

Pazo guaranteed that, in the event that there is no unanimity in the INYM board in the special pricing session, the Nation will issue the corresponding award and that in that instance the cost grid will be analyzed point by point to determine raw material values.
