Fraport Greece, the management and operation body of the 14 regional airports in Greece, successfully carried out, in cooperation with all the relevant bodies, a planned emergency exercise at Chania “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” airport.
In the execution of the exercise, and beyond the executives of Fraport Greece, all the parties involved, in these cases, participated, namely, the Air Force (115th Fighter Wing), the Hellenic Police (EL.AS), the Fire Brigade (P. S.), the National Emergency Center (E.K.A.B) and the involved bodies from the airport, such as the ground handling operator and the Security Service Provider.
The exercise scenario involved an incident on the ground involving an aircraft. With the occurrence of the incident, the airport’s Emergency Response Plan was immediately activated, with the parallel initiation of the relevant operational procedures.
In particular, actions for the rescue, the provision of first aid in the field and the transport of the occupants were put into operation, in excellent coordination between the agencies involved.
The purpose of conducting the partial-scale exercise was to evaluate and possibly improve the operational level of response to such an event, but mainly to analyze the pace of cooperation and interoperability of the involved bodies, in dealing with such a crisis.
