This Thursday, Romain Rosier, the boss of Nutradia, was Martin Buxant’s Alex Reed on Bel RTL matin. The name of the company may not mean anything to you, and yet it is a hit and employs more than 200 people in the Andenne region. His product? Healthy chips.
Producing less fatty chips is the challenge that the family business Nutradia, based near Andenne, has taken on. Its CEO, Romain Rosier, explained to Martin Buxant how they achieved this. “We stay in the chips, but we detach ourselves from these potatoes which are cut into strips and put in the fryer. There is much less fat. We’re going to take lots of micro-ingredients like chickpeas, yellow or green, sweet potatoes, beets, soy, black beans that we’re going to put together to make our chips. Our product, instead of being 30% fat, will be 10%, but without being in light chips like we knew 20 years ago and which are much less good.“, he explains.
To form a crunchy chip, the company uses a type of waffle iron which will bring together the different ingredients. The resulting small cake is then crushed to give it the shape and crunch of chips.
This process is part of “healthy snacking”, healthy snacks. “It’s a market that’s exploding. The upcoming generation is much more aware and pays more attention to what they want to eat, to eat better“, declares the boss of Nutradia.
The company has just invested 21 million euros for a new factory which will be operational very soon and which should make it possible to double production capacity. However, don’t look for the Nutradia brand in supermarkets, the company is currently content to work for other brands, some of which are giants in the food industry.
