While the park is in full winter and will not open before March 30, that does not mean that we are not working behind the scenes. In addition to preparing for the new season and training the more than 600 seasonal workers who will look following visitors during the 2024 season, the park’s investment and expansion plan is continuing.
For the record, Walibi presented in spring 2017 a full investment estimated at 100 million euros. On the menu, renovation of certain areas, expansion of the park, renovation of Walibi or even changes to the catering offer. A plan which has been revised in recent years following the health crisis and the floods of July 2021. But despite the delay and the modifications, Walibi remains no less ambitious for the years to come.
Aqualibi is getting a makeover and will reopen this Friday: discovering 1,000 meters of slides, 18 meter waves and descents at 50 km/h
In recent months, most of the work has been carried out at Aqualibi in the fall, with closure from September to December. As a reminder, all the interior decorations have been renovated, the changing rooms and showers have been completely renovated, but it is especially the extension of the water park that is worth the detour. A 25 meter high tower which accommodates four slides which the management presents as unique in the Benelux.
In the coming months, a new project will take place around the Psyké Underground and the Flashback. A new world, which should be called “Dock World”, will in fact be built, as announced by the specialist site Starpac. “Note that, for the occasion, Psyké Underground will return to its former name, the Turbine. Known as the Speed Boat project, the new attraction will be resolutely family-friendly, of the Family Launch Coaster type, the route of which has been defined on and around the Gold River Adventure boat ride pond. To do this, a restaurant will be demolished and a new one built nearby. A hall will be erected in the current access path and the exits of the three attractions (Psyké Underground, the Flashback and the Family Launch Coaster) will converge there. The picnic areas dedicated to visitors will be renovated. The various paths have also been renovated and adapted, the exterior floor coverings will be modified,” we read.
Last summer, Walibi submitted a planning permit which was subject to a public inquiry for a few weeks. Since then, Walibi has remained discreet on this matter, but the permit was indeed accepted. “The work on the new coasters has started well,” confirms Guillaume Morghen, brand manager of the park.
Jean-Christophe Parent, the boss of Walibi, guest of La DH’s Grand Interview: “The rebranding as ‘Six Flags’ at the time was really a horror”
In the years to come, other investments should see the light of day. Some even mention the arrival of a hotel, as is the case in Pairi Daiza. Although Walibi opened – successfully – for the first time in winter during the Christmas holidays, this is not yet on the agenda. Two years ago, during a Grand Interview, Jean-Christophe Parent said this: “As Sarkozy would say, ‘I think regarding it every morning when I shave’ (laughs). You have to have the ambition to think regarding it, but it takes time and doesn’t happen overnight,” he said in January 2022.
Walibi is further increasing its prices for the 2024 season: we are approaching €50 for an adult entry!
