The Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile (Fedefruta) asked the Government to accelerate the processing of its security agenda and take urgent action once morest crime, following the assault that left two farmers murdered in Malloa, O’Higgins Region.
Given what happened on the Fruit Route, union vice president Víctor Catán stated in What Remains of the Cooperative Day that crime has moved from the urban to the rural world.
“This is not a coincidence, many other (assaults) had already been seen that had not ended in this outcome, many of the producers who produce their fruits and vegetables go to Lo Valledor to sell and return with the money to pay their workers. and they are assaulted,” he indicated.
For this reason, he asked the Government to move forward with “great urgency” in its security agenda and to “take this issue seriously once and for all, I am not saying that they have not done so, but in truth the results or actions that have been taken, evidently they have not caused the effects that the country requires.”
In that sense, Catán stated that “it seems to me that it is vital that irregular entry is a crime, it cannot be a misdemeanor, I think it starts from there. A second thing, it is an issue of intelligence, we do not know who is in Chile and a series of crimes are being committed that are not being prosecuted, because there is no common thread.”
