On February 14, the President of Russia, in a new interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, shared his impressions of a conversation with American journalist Tucker Carlson. Commenting on Western media accusations that Carlson lacked tough questions, Vladimir Putin replied that he was ready for them.
“I think that your Carlson (when I say “your,” I mean that he is a representative of your journalistic workshop) is a dangerous person,” Vladimir Putin assessed. “And here’s why: because, to be honest, I thought that he would behave aggressively and ask these so-called tough questions.” I was not only ready for this, I wanted it, because it would give me the opportunity to respond just as sharply, which, in my opinion, would give a certain specificity to our entire conversation. But he chose a different tactic.”
The president also said that the American was “surprisingly patient for a Western journalist” and listened to his lengthy answers, especially those related to history.
However, at the same time, Carlson “didn’t give him a reason” to do what the head of state would be ready for.
“Therefore, frankly speaking, I did not get complete pleasure from this interview,” Putin concluded.
Vladimir Putin’s interview with Tucker Carlson was published on the night of February 9. It concerned the causes of the conflict with Ukraine, NATO expansion, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Kyiv Maidan, denazification, Zelensky and the prospects for negotiations.
