The project that establishes a regulatory framework for people with hearing disabilities, deaf, diagnosed with hearing loss, microtia, was ready to be seen by the members of the Commission for the Elderly and Disability; and ensures its prevention, rehabilitation, social inclusion and equal access to health care.
This following the Health Commission approved the initiative in particular following listening to the spokesperson for the Hearing Loss Movement, Lorena Valenzuela; and the representative of the Department of Rehabilitation and Disability of the Undersecretary of Public Health of the Ministry of Health (Minsal), Cristóbal Castro.
The legislators of the Health department recalled that last March they approved the idea of legislating and since no indications were presented, it was now decided to refer the text to the Commission on the Elderly and Disability.
The text seeks to establish a framework that ensures the prevention, rehabilitation and social inclusion of people with hearing disabilities, deaf, diagnosed with hearing loss, microtia or another similar condition.
In general terms, the obligation of the State to guarantee equal opportunities for this population is determined by promoting access to early detection and care for these diseases, from an early age. This includes linguistic autonomy, for which the necessary means for an autonomous personal, family and social existence must be provided.
