The RWDM sinks a little deeper into crisis after a heavy defeat

Antwerp easily dominated (0-4) RWD Molenbeek on Sunday, during the 25th day of the Jupiler Pro League at the Edmond Machtens stadium. The reigning champion, returning to the locker room with a three-goal advantage, remains 4th but moves up to Club Brugge (44 points) in the standings. The RWDM continues a seventh match without success in the championship and sinks into the red zone.

Not particularly dominant in the first quarter of an hour, the Great Old made the difference following 15 minutes of play and a penalty converted by Toby Alderweireld following a foul by Sambu Marsoni on Jacob Ondrejka in the area. The rest of the match was more balanced but Vincent Janssen, launched from deep, performed a superb chest control-cross strike sequence to get rid of Philipe Sampaio and deceive Théo Defourny (35th). Still launched from deep, Janssen turned into a passer for Ondrejka, faster than the opposing defense at the far post (45th). In the second half, the RWDM, cornered in its part of the field, conceded a new penalty on the hour mark, Sampaio mowing down Janssen who had just eliminated him. Alderweireld scored a double by converting his attempt from 11 meters (62nd) full-line. Sampaio put his team in a little more difficulty by leaving his teammates at ten for having hooked Ondrejka, thrown a few meters from the Molenbeek half-pipe, without consequences on the score followingwards. In the standings, RWDM is 14th with 22 points, two points behind Louvain, the first team outside the red zone. The Brussels residents will travel to Genk on Saturday. Antwerp is 4th, 15 points behind the Unionist leader but tied (44) with Club Bruges, 3rd. The Great Old will host Mechelen on the 26th day.
