Ggreat upheaval in the world of media. Nicolas de Tavernost, at the helm of M6 for 37 years, announced on Tuesday February 13 his departure from the group he helped to found. According to information from Figaro relayed by Agence France-Presse, the leader intends to make way for the new generation.

A departure planned for the end of April which comes earlier than expected, his mandate expected to extend until August 2025, following the failure of the merger project with TF1. The good health of the group, which in addition to M6, now includes the stations RTL, RTL 2, Fun Radio, and the channels W9, Teva, Paris Première and Gulli, with successful shows like Top boss or Beijing express, convinced him to leave his chair. “He transformed the company from a small television channel into one of the most profitable and diversified audiovisual groups in Europe,” welcomed the group’s supervisory board in a press release.

A departure announced on video

“After clarifying our strategy on streaming, I considered that the current conditions made it possible, given the good performance of the group, to move on to the succession stage,” announced Nicolas de Tavernost.

“Don’t worry, I don’t intend to go fishing right away,” he joked in a video recorded to announce his departure and broadcast on the social network X (formerly Twitter) , where we see someone press the remote control to turn off the television.

Known for his stormy character, Nicolas de Tavernost began his career in audiovisual by becoming deputy director of Métropole Télévision (M6) in 1987, following leading the project to create the channel within Lyonnaise des Eaux.

His successor is a regular at the M6 ​​house

His successor is already known. This is David Larramendy, 49 years old, who has headed M6 Publicité for sixteen years. “A talented professional with strong experience in management and excellent results in advertising management,” commented Nicolas de Tavernost in Le Figaro.

The latter will notably have the mission of developing the group’s offering and results in terms of streaming with a new platform called M6 +, which will be unveiled at the beginning of March and should replace the current 6Play.
