This Saturday, President Gabriel Boric decreed a state of emergency due to catastrophe for the provinces of Valparaíso and Marga Marga as a result of the forest fires affecting the region, which have already consumed more than 7,200 hectares.

Rear Admiral Daniel Muñoz of the Navy will be the head of National Defense in the two aforementioned provinces.

The presidential delegate Sofía González also confirmed that a curfew will be established that will extend from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in four communes in the region: Limache, Villa Alemana, Quilpué and Viña del Mar.

González explained that the objective is to “favor and expedite the deployment of logistical means and emergency equipment.”

“Emergency corridors and also security perimeters will be established, considering that the main objective is to be able to control this fire, to ensure that the arrival of emergency teams is as efficient as possible, in addition to safeguarding the integrity and life of each of the inhabitants of this sector,” added the authority.

The delegate called on the residents of the region to respect the evacuation calls by the authorities and to take extreme precautionary measures.

What happens if I break curfew? The rear admiral indicated that “this is a legal norm, that is, if there is a civilian who does not have a particular reason and is not associated with the emergency, he will be inspected. If he does not have a justified reason, he can be detained and placed at the service of the Public Ministry.”
