The International Union Against Cancer (UICC) has pointed out the importance of taking concrete measures once morest different types of cancer, in order to avoid the increase in cases of the disease, which they predict may rise to 16.5 million by 2040.
In this sense, specialists focus on three key aspects for their approach: prevention, early diagnosis, and advances in treatment.
«About 40% of cancer cases can be prevented by leading a healthy lifestyle, which includes: a healthy diet, physical activity, no tobacco, moderate or no alcohol intake, protection of the skin when exposed to the sun, having the vaccination schedule is up to date and carry out frequent health checks,” said Dr. Florencia Perazzo, clinical oncologist at CEMIC.
According to the indicators, early detection of cancer allows it to be addressed in its initial stages, increasing the chances of achieving more effective treatment.
For example, they estimate that up to 90% of cases of colon and rectal cancer might be cured; on the other hand, early detection of breast cancer can also reduce mortality by between 25% and 31%, by carrying out controls periodic doctors and performing mammography and breast ultrasound.
