Dubai: West Indies bowler Shamar Joseph, the new pace sensation in international cricket, has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2024. Shamar is also the first Windies player to win this award.
Shamar received the award for his brilliant performance in the Test series once morest Australia. Ireland’s Amy Hunter won the women’s category.
Shamar, who made his debut for West Indies in the first match of the Test series once morest Australia, took the wicket of Steve Smith in the very first ball he bowled in international cricket. He also took five wickets in the first innings of the Test held in Adelaide.
But it was in the second Test at the Gabba that Shamar stormed. Shamar took seven wickets in the second innings to give West Indies an eight-run win and West Indies’ first Test win on Australian soil following 27 years. Shamar himself was the star of the Gabba Test and the series.
