Raaber-Bahn AG will probably soon be owned by more than two thirds of Hungary if the Ministry of Transport does not give in. As a result, Austria’s influence is declining rapidly
Vienna (OTS) – “The Hungarians already hold around 65% of the company shares, while Austria and Strabag SE hold the remaining shares,” said the liberal technology spokesman Dipl.-Ing. Gerhard Deimek. “Strabag SE is apparently planning to sell its 6% stake. If Austria does not try to acquire these shares, they will go to the state of Hungary, which will then own more than two-thirds of the shares,” said Deimek.
According to Gerhard Deimek, the fact that this development will have a significant impact on the Raaber Railway is as certain as the amen in prayer. “With a two-thirds majority, Hungarians can appoint the supervisory board and management board alone, dissolve the company or close Austrian locations. We are drifting into dependence and are helpless at the mercy of the Hungarians. Neither the Raaber Railway nor the thousands of Austrian passengers who depend on this railway deserve this. The recent events – for example the dismissal of the Austrian deputy general director Dellemann shows that the relationship between Austria and Hungary is currently not the best – but that is also on Gewessler!
It was learned from well-informed circles that Gewessler had refused to speak to his Hungarian counterpart because – according to tradition – she does not speak “to right-wing radicals”. According to reports, Gewessler was then commissioned by Chancellor Nehammer to speak to the Hungarians in the ‘Causa Dellemann’. When she said at the beginning of this conversation that she was making an exception and was now speaking to a ‘right-winger’, the Hungarian minister is said to have ended the conversation immediately. Deimek: “This minister is intolerable for our country! Gewessler must make politics in the interests of the country and not base their actions on political preferences, because that damages our republic!”
The deputy urged people to give in quickly. “Due to the importance of the Raaber Railway for many Eastern Austrians, we view the current development with dismay. From the Hungarian perspective, it is completely understandable that Hungary is trying to get the shares of Strabag SE. From an Austrian perspective, it is incomprehensible that Gewessler makes no attempt at all to acquire the shares. Gewessler has to jump over their shadow and give priority to domestic interests,” concluded Deimek.
