Sixers full of casualties break the Cavaliers’ nine-game winning streak

New York, Feb 12 (EFE).- The Philadelphia 76ers, despite arriving in Cleveland with a large number of casualties, won this Monday 121-123 and broke the Cavaliers’ nine-game winning streak.

Without the injured Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Nico Batum, De’Anthony Melton and Robert Covington, the Sixers won on the court of the fittest team in the NBA with 24 points apiece from Buddy Hield and Kelly Oubre Jr.

Philadelphia had only won one of its last five games and had to sweat until the last second to take the spoils from Cleveland.

The Cavaliers trailed by 10 points with only 1.25 left in the fourth quarter, but Donovan Mitchell’s men, who finished the game with 36 points, orchestrated a furious rebellion that left them on the brink of an epic comeback.

Mitchell scored 8 points in those last 85 seconds and put the Cavaliers up 121-122 with 9 seconds left. Tyrese Maxey missed his first free throw and made the second, opening the way for the home team to force overtime or win with a three-pointer.

Mitchell took responsibility but his two-point shot was blocked by Paul Reed and the ball went in the corner to Darius Garland, who mightn’t hit the three-pointer at the buzzer.

The Sixers are fifth in the East with a record of 32-21 while the Cavaliers remain second in that conference with a record of 35-17.
