The deputies of the UDI Bench representing the Ñuble Region, Marta Bravo and Cristóbal Martínez, valued the unanimous support received by the project that extends the elimination of the winter rate to all existing Rural Drinking Water (APR) systems. in the country, and which will come into force immediately once the Government decides to enact the new law.
The union parliamentarians recalled that although the measure came into force in July of last year, since there were more than 15 different electricity rates, it only benefited regarding 1,300 APRs that operate in Chile, excluding another 1,200 systems for purely administrative reasons.
For this reason, a project that was quickly processed in the Lower House and that was also approved by the Senate, will establish that for 45% of the services that were not incorporated, a discount will be applied to their electricity bills equivalent to the amount of the benefit, thus extending the measure to all APRs, which are also known as Rural Health Services.
“We are doing justice to the nearly two million Chileans who access drinking water through these services. Let’s not forget that, due to the nature of APRs, they require them to operate 24 hours a day to supply their users, so it was absolutely illogical that they were charging them for excess consumption during that time of year. We are complying with a very heartfelt demand, especially for the rural world of Ñuble, who were unfairly being charged too much just for the place where they live,” said the UDI parliamentarians.
Deputies Bravo and Martínez explained that it was during the processing in the Lower House where the authorities assured that, if the law was approved, the Rural Health Services would see an immediate reduction in the electricity rate of around 15%. As an example, for an APR that consumes 508 kWh and pays $115,956 monthly, your account would now be around $97,700.
In this way, both reiterated that the new law “will directly benefit all users who access this important resource through the APR,” adding that “it is a debt that we had outstanding with all the services that had been excluded during the year.” past”.
“Rural Health Services or APR play a transcendental role for our society and did not deserve to be excluded from the benefits only for technical or administrative reasons. It was completely absurd that users had to pay a surcharge during a time of year, knowing that these services have to operate permanently to be able to supply all families. That is why we are very happy that the Senate unanimously approved this project, just as we did in the House, because very soon it will become law and we will be economically supporting millions of Chileans,” concluded the representatives of Ñuble, who called on the Government to promulgate the new regulationsto “as soon as possible.”
