The BAIC BJ40 SUV, which has been sold in Russia since last summer, will receive a version with a diesel engine; sales will begin in the spring. The press service of the Chinese brand told Rossiyskaya Gazeta regarding this.
At the same time, they did not disclose details, noting only that it is worth waiting for the release, which will be sent out soon. At the same time, BAIC added that another SUV, the BJ60, will launch on the Russian market in the summer.
The BAIC BJ40 is expected to receive a two-liter turbodiesel with 163 horsepower (380 Nm), an automatic transmission and full wire.
Now the model is offered in our country with a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine with a power of 225 hp, an 8-speed ZF hydromechanical automatic transmission and selectable all-wheel drive (permanent drive on the rear axle + rigidly connected “front”), there is a reduction range. The ground clearance of the car is 210 mm. The front suspension is independent spring, the rear suspension is dependent spring, with a continuous axle.
BAIC BJ40 is produced at Avtotor in Kaliningrad.
As for the BJ60, the SUV will receive a new front end design in November 2023. The five sections of the radiator grille are retained as a signature feature, but they are made in the form of LED strips that replace the U-shaped sections. The massiveness of the front part is added by the vertical element of the daytime running lights. The rear lights and bumper have also been redesigned.
The new style has slightly affected the overall length of the Bejing BJ60 SUV. The length increased by 20 mm to 5040 mm, the width and height remained the same: 1955 and 1925 mm. The wheelbase size is 2820 mm.
The new product has a hybrid system based on a one and a half liter turbo engine with a capacity of 188 hp. But such a car is unlikely to be brought to us. Most likely, the model will receive a version with a 2-liter turbo engine producing 266 hp. and 406 Nm of torque and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
