The Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious once morest the San Francisco 49ers during Super Bowl LVIII in what was just the second Super Bowl in history to go to overtime. Thanks to the high-end drama, the back-and-forth battle shattered television viewership records.
On Monday, CBS announced that Super Bowl LVIII was the most watched telecast in history.
The network announced its broadcast ratings for Sunday’s game, reporting that a total of 123.4 million average viewers were recorded across all platforms, including the CBS Television Network, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision and CBS Sports.
120 million viewers reportedly tuned in via the main CBS broadcast, making it the largest ever audience for a single network.
Additionally, more than 200 million viewers watched “all or part” of the game, another record, and the game was the most-streamed Super Bowl in history.
Prior to Sunday’s record-breaking Super Bowl, the previous most watched telecast in history was Super Bowl LVII, featuring the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. That game drew in an audience of 115.1 million viewers, and CBS reported a 7% increase in viewership for this year’s game.
There were plenty of intriguing storylines surrounding Super Bowl LVIII, including Taylor Swift’s attendance, a halftime performance from Usher, and of course, an on-field showdown between two of the NFL’s best teams. That all culminated in a record-setting telecast.
