For two months, until March 31, the Lufthansa Group and its subsidiary Air Dolomiti will operate the connection from Linz to Frankfurt Airport. Then, as reported, this will be over for the time being because the machines need repairs due to contaminated engines. This caused unrest in Upper Austria.
Now there is hope once more in Linz. Airport boss Norbert Draskovits confirms that there are advanced negotiations with the South Tyrolean airline SkyAlps. Now it’s regarding the time factor, “how quickly we manage to establish the cooperation”. It remains to be seen whether this is realistic for this year’s summer flight schedule. Linz Airport works with SkyAlps, based in Bolzano, and the South Tyroleans have been flying the route from Linz to Düsseldorf and back since October 2023.
Interest in attractive regional routes
When asked by OÖN, SkyAlps said it was “fundamentally interested in covering attractive regional routes”. We have had good experiences with the Düsseldorf connection from Linz so far and the offer will be accepted. The flight takes place with Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, which have space for 76 passengers.
Meanwhile, in Germany, air traffic controllers at major airports are on strike today, Thursday. Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden and Erfurt are affected. The AUA advises travelers to check their flight status online or via the app in good time.
