How can we not return to this fantastic expedition on Kilimanjaro which allowed a whole group of tourism professionals to reach the roof of Africa perched at an altitude of 5,895 meters last week.
This mythical mountain located in the northeast of Tanzania, on the border with Kenya, is much more than a simple volcanic formation. It is a symbol of beauty, adventure and resilience.
Initiated by the Cediv Travel network and supervised by the Côté Soleil Expéditions agency, the ascent of Kilimanjaro is indeed a physical and mental challenge that requires perseverance, endurance and determination. A life lesson that forces us to humility and solidarity.
How can we not be touched by the incessant ballet of guides and porters who struggle at each stage so that we can conquer this legendary summit in the best conditions. And how can you not be moved to tears by their chants of “Jambo, jambo bwana!” Habari gani! Kilimanjaro, hakuna matata” which invite us to triumph over adversity and pursue the adventure.
Every day, too, we were rewarded with breathtaking scenery, from dense, humid tropical forests to vast expanses of glaciers, rocky ridges and an alpine desert setting. Each step towards the summit was an encounter with the raw beauty of our planet.
However, Kilimanjaro is a stark reminder of the environmental challenges our world faces. Victims of global warming, the eternal snows of Kili are less and less so. Their gradual disappearance sounds like a call to order. They show us the urgent need to act to preserve our planet. So that future generations can marvel at such beauty.
