Residents Demand Action on Speeding Cars in Thier Martin, Manaihant: Mayor Confirms City’s Consideration of Projects

This Saturday, February 10, 2024, around 7 a.m., the residents of a house in Thier Martin, in Manaihant, were suddenly awakened. A car, which was driving too fast, had just hit the wall in front of their house. The straw that broke the camel’s back for several residents of this residential area.

This is in fact not the first time that a road accident has occurred on this axis in recent times. In May 2022, another vehicle also crossed a sidewalk then an embankment before rolling over and landing in front of the garage of a property. A power pole was also recently damaged.

According to several residents, excessive speed of cars is a real problem in this area. Limited to 50 km/h, this is not sufficiently respected. “We regularly see cars sliding and for whom it ends well. This problem is not trivial, explains a local resident, who prefers to testify anonymously. Just a few days ago, I saw a motorist take the strip in in the opposite direction to go through the turn like on a race track. It sends shivers down your spine.” So far, the road accidents have not caused any casualties. “But a tragedy will eventually happen if nothing changes,” he believes.

As a result, many are calling for adjustments to no longer give drivers the opportunity to accelerate. “We might, for example, do what we do in other streets in Herve and place “except local traffic” signs with fines if we do not respect them.”

Although speed checks are carried out from time to time by the Pays de Herve police zone in Thier Martin, residents consider that this is not enough of a deterrent.

Contacted by us, the mayor of Herve, Marc Drouguet (HDM), also a resident of the street, confirms that the City is considering it. “Projects are underway,” he says.
