The Olympic champion in the mass start (214 points) is currently fourth in the ranking, seventeen points behind Valerie Maltais (231 points). To take the final win, the classification leader has to drop a lot of points, but this also applies to Ivanie Blondin (228 points) and Mia Manganello (217 points). Schouten has already won the mass start twice this season, but recently missed out in Salt Lake City.
On the individual numbers it will be particularly exciting on the 500 meters. There it is between Wataru Morishige (445 points) and Laurent Dubreuil (426 points). In the final stage, the latter is paired with Jordan Stolz, winner of the first 500 meters for the men on Saturday. Morishige meets fellow countryman Yuma Murakami shortly before and defends a lead of nineteen points. Janno Botman is the only remaining Dutchman in the A group and is riding for a top ten place in the final classification. He will compete once morest the Japanese Yumai Yamamoto in the sixth stage.
Reigning world champion Femke Kok still had a chance to win this weekend, but with Saturday’s second place that chance was lost. She will have to watch Erin Jackson (474 points) and Min-Sun Kim (460 points) compete for the World Cup. The two meet each other in a direct duel. The Dutch women can at most aim for daytime success: Dione Voskamp rides once morest Sarah Warren in the fourth stage, Naomi Verkerk meets Ruining Tian in the sixth stage, Femke Kok once morest Rio Yamada (stage 8) and Marrit Fledderus versus Kurumi Inagawa is the final piece.
Miho Takagi has already secured the overall victory in the 1500 meters for women, so the Japanese is absent. In the absence of Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong (third in the standings before the final weekend), two other Dutch women are competing for a place on the final podium. Marijke Groenewoud (180 points) is currently fifth, Joy Beune (179 points) sixth. They have to deal with Kimi Goetz (182 points) and possibly Mei Han (217 points) to keep a view of the podium. Beune rides once morest Ayano Sato in the eighth stage, Groenewoud meets Han immediately followingwards. Melissa Wijfje (stage 4) duels with Binyu Yang while Esther Kiel crosses swords with Kaitlyn McGregor.
In the team sprint for men, collecting points is essential for a place at the World Championships in Calgary. The Netherlands comes into action with Stefan Westenbroek, Janno Botman and Wesly Dijs. Joep Wennemars is currently on paper as a reserve. The Dutch men currently occupy sixth place in the rankings, good for a World Cup ticket.
