Tuluá Crisis: Chaos, Violence, and Militarization in Valle del Cauca

The situation is increasingly critical in the municipality of Tuluá, Valle del Cauca. On February 10 there was a night of terror with the burning of at least five vehicles, the death of a traffic guard and another seriously injured, and excesses that did not stop generating anxiety in the inhabitants of that town.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, referred to the public order situation, indicating that he will not allow himself to be blackmailed by the actions of one of the criminal gangs that operates in Tuluá and that would have power in the area.

“The immaculate gang has challenged society. Their leaders are in prison. We do not accept blackmail,” he said through X.

The excesses and the various acts of public order worsened when the National Police captured Mauricio Marín Silva, alias Nacho, head of the criminal group ‘La Inmaculada’, also known as ‘The Office’.

There was even a threatening pamphlet that circulated in the city and that it was coming from the band ‘La Inmaculada’.

Seeing that everything got out of control, around 11 pm this Saturday, February 10, a curfew was declared.

In addition to this, the Third Brigade and the governor of the Valley, Dilian Francisca Toro, decided to militarize the municipality with the presence of more than 160 soldiers.

Given the situation of fear and chaos, today, February 11, a security council is held with the presence of the director of the Police, General William René Salamanca in order to take measures and guarantee the safety of more than 200 thousand inhabitants of the municipality .

For his part, the mayor of Tuluá, Gustavo Vélez, condemned this situation and assured that those responsible for these events will be found.

“I condemn and deeply regret the assassination attacks once morest Tuluá traffic agents Jonny A. Castaño and César Hernández. I ask the authorities to investigate these events to find those responsible and offer clarity to the people of Tulueño,” said the mayor.

The murdered traffic officer who caused commotion in the town was identified as César Augusto Hernández, he was 51 years old, he was in his home in the Municipal neighborhood, of the town in the center of the Valley.

There, armed men entered and shot at the guard. A woman who was at the scene was injured.

Who is alias Nacho?

Alias ​​Nacho, one of the most wanted in Valle del Cauca, had been wanted since 2019 by a court in Buga for drug trafficking, homicide and conspiracy to commit a crime, and in December 2022, he was released due to the expiration of terms.

Now, who is identified by the Valle Police as the visible leader of the ‘La Inmaculada’ gang, one of the most feared in Tuluá, was transferred to Bogotá. ‘The Immaculate’ is also known as ‘The Office’.
