German Chief of Staff Carsten Breuer considered that the possibilities of the Russian threat and the expansion of the war in Ukraine were increasing, stressing that his country must prepare for war within 5 years.

In an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Bohren explained that “preparing for war” is a phased process.

He said: “We do not have infinite time, because for the first time since the end of the Cold War, a potential war is imposed on us from outside,” adding: “When I follow analysts and see the possibility of a military threat from Russia, this means for us a preparation time of 5 to 8 years.” “.

In response to a question regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin expanding the war beyond Ukraine, Breuer replied: “First and foremost are intentions. I see that in what Putin writes and says, and in his actions in Ukraine. This includes military capabilities. We saw that Russia turned to a war economy with a decision “The Duma. Now the possibility is increasing.”

It is noteworthy that, following the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Germany announced an increase in spending on defense and established a special fund worth 100 billion euros to purchase advanced weapons systems and modernize the country’s armed forces.

The German government signed many contracts to purchase weapons, the most important of which was the purchase of F-35 fighters, American Chinook transport helicopters, and an Israeli-made Arrow 3 missile defense system.
