Pizza and Coca-Cola are a recipe for real magic. The most pleasant ritual in the world

To talk regarding the present, we need to go back in time to the end of the 19th century. On May 8, 1886, Dr. John Pemberton, as always, opens Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta. However, this opening is special because on this day Coca-Cola is served for the first time in history. Three years later, in June 1889, Queen Margrethe visited Naples on the occasion of the unification of Italy. During this visit, Raffaele Esposito prepares a special pizza whose ingredients represent the colors of the Italian flag. The simple composition consists of tomatoes, basil and mozzarella. This is how margherita was created. Next to pepperoni and capriciosa, it is Poles’ favorite pizza. According to gourmets, the quality of a pizzeria is determined by the quality of the margherita.

The first documented mentions of pizza date back to 997 AD. Over the years, various varieties have been created, although Neapolitan pizza has gained the strongest reputation. To call their baked goods that, pizzaiolo must undergo training in Naples and receive an appropriate certificate. Perhaps no one is as proud of their pizza as the Neapolitans. It was the local specialists who taught us the art of preparing dough and ingredients. We also distinguish Roman and Sicilian pizza. The former is crispy and the edges do not protrude above the dough. Sicilian, on the other hand, is thicker and fluffy.

Pizza also emigrated to the United States. The most typical ones here are New York and Chicago pizza. New York is a combination of soft dough with crispy edges, which allows you to fold the piece in half. Chicago-style pizza, on the other hand, is characterized by thick yeast dough, thicker than Sicilian. Another interesting thing is that the ingredients are placed in reverse, so first the mozzarella is placed on the dough, then the additions and only finally the tomato sauce. Does this remind you of anything? Of course! After all, Coca-Cola also comes in various varieties and flavors, including Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine. We are also food and drink lovers – we also come from different countries and cultures, but what unites us is the ritual of eating meals together.

The place we visited during our trip was Sonia Factory. They were created by Sonia Peronaci, a chef and Italian TV star. There are several kitchens with different designs that can be rented, e.g. for filming culinary programs. In these extraordinary interiors, we learned the secrets of preparing pesto, we learned to recognize and evaluate the quality of olive oil, we learned regarding different species of Italian tomatoes, and we also formed mozzarella balls, which turned out to be quite a challenge. The recipe for Neapolitan pizza itself, like many Italian dishes, is very simple. The dough is a combination of flour, yeast, water and salt in appropriate proportions.

Pizza is, above all, time spent together. Cut into triangles, it encourages you to share it with others. That is why we learned all the secrets of its individual components in an international environment, divided into smaller groups. We were told regarding every aspect of pizza preparation by authorities in their fields. The highlight of the workshop was selecting the ingredients and preparing this famous Italian dish together. We decided to combine mortadella, parmesan and pistachios.

– Even though we take pizza for granted, it is more than just a meal. Original and delicious ingredients, tradition, culinary art, and above all, the opportunity to share it with those close to us. Referring to these moments, we want to remind you that it takes very little to be together and thus create unique stories and true magic. All you need are three ingredients, company, a shared meal and a cold Coca-Cola Zero or Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Zero Caffeine – says Filip J. Kipa, Senior Brand Manager of The Coca-Cola Company Polska.

In pizza, as in life, diversity is beautiful. In this case, it’s regarding the variety of ingredients. Take, for example, the combination of nduja piccante and ricotta. Placing them close to each other, with the nduja at the front and the ricotta right behind it, means that you will first feel the spicy taste straight from Calabria, but before it reaches your throat, it will be softened by the ricotta. However, if ricotta is not enough, a chilled Coca-Cola will always come to the rescue – it tastes best with pizza in good company.
