Microsoft’s new PC Manager could actually slow down Windows 11 and 10

Microsoft is gradually rolling out its new PC Manager tool, which aims to speed up your computer’s performance by removing unnecessary files, similar to Ccleaner. However, it turns out that one of the options in this new software slows down PCs.

In addition to these new, very practical features of Windows 11, Microsoft recently deployed new software on its online store: PC Manager. This application is similar to Ccleaner. Like this software, it mainly offers clean your PCby deleting files that take up unnecessary space on the hard drive and the scraps of uninstalled programs, to speed up computer performance.

But there is a hiccup. As Neowin reveals, by deleting files, PC Manager might actually slow down Windows.

Why PC Manager slows down Windows performance?

PC Manager has an option “deep cleaning“. This option scans the entire machine to delete files that the user no longer needs, freeing up space and speeding up computer performance.

Problem, this optimization option also erases all the files contained in the Prefetch folder from the computer. This folder is used to save information from applications run by the user, so that they start faster the next time. These are not essential files, but they are useful in keeping a computer running smoothly.

When Microsoft PC Manager switches, all files in the Prefetch folder disappear. Although this saves a little disk space, it mostly slows down the overall operation of the PC. So it will be better not to activate this deep cleaning option, to save the computer’s performance. The height for an application that offers precisely the opposite!

The news might halt the adoption of this new free utility from Microsoft, especially in France. In fact, it appears that many users in our country do not yet have access to the application. Even when going to the Microsoft Store, the button to download PC Manager does not appear. This will not encourage them to do so once available.

Microsoft has a lot to do with Windows 11 currently. Just yesterday, the taskbar was redesigned for a more modern appearance. Let’s all hope that by the time PC Manager is fully deployed, Microsoft will find the time to correct this thorny problem. In the meantime, we will stay on Ccleaner.
