Electric car sales in January in France clearly show the trend. While in November their share of vehicle sales had soared to 20.2%, they were only 16.4% of new registrations were electric in January. More generally, the market is gloomy.
If this situation is valid in France, it is identical to the United Kingdom. In this country there would not only be difficult economic conditions, but also Mr Bean’s action which would explain this sluggishness in the electric car market. Wait…what?
Actor Rowan Atkinson doubts the electric car in a forum
On Tuesday, at a meeting of the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee, Le think tank Green Alliance was invited to give its opinion on the main obstacles to the elimination of thermal cars by 2035. Among the points raised by the lobbyists, Rowan Atkinson’s tribuneactor of Mr. Bean and Johnny English, published in The Guardian in June.
In the pages of the highly respected daily, the 69-year-old actor questioned the environmental virtues of electric vehicles. A position shared by the essayist Laurent Castaignède for whom the electric car is a “disaster predicted”. Rowan Atkinson, for his part, headlined his column: “I love electric vehicles and was an early adopter. But I feel more and more duped“.
He explains that electric cars are lacking “lady” and that to protect the planet, it is better to keep your thermal car longer and use it as little as possible. This argues in particular that the pollution caused by the manufacturing of electric car batteries is for the moment too important.
The electric car in danger in the United Kingdom because of Johnny English
According to the environmentalist think tank, this position would have dissuaded many Britons from taking the plunge. The platform would thus constitute “one of the most damaging elements” to sales of electric cars. Just that.
