Marco Odermatt is ideally placed to reap a ninth consecutive success in the Giant World Cup. The best skier on the planet set the best time in the first round on Saturday in Bansko.
The Nidwalden is “only” 0”35 ahead of his first pursuer, the astonishing Alexander Steen Olsen, following having missed his chance in the wall. He forced the decision at the bottom of the course, gaining 0”48 from the Norwegian on the last sector.
Third, the Austrian Manuel Feller is 0”47 behind Marco Odermatt while the 4th, the Croatian Filip Zubcic, is 0”74 behind. Only six riders lost less than a second on the Nidwalden.
Among them is Loïc Meillard. The Hérémence skier, still in search of a first giant podium this season, conceded 0”89 to his leader to appear in 7th position. Thomas Tumler is 11th at 1”44, Gino Cviensel 20th at 2”27 and Justin Murisier 21st (at 2”57) following 30 competitors.
