ASRock BIOS update increases Intel processor performance by up to 10%

This week, ASRock released an interesting update for the BIOS of its motherboards that brings something unexpected: it increases the performance of Intel CPUs by up to 10%. This is possible thanks to an option to disable the chips’ CEP (CurrentExcursion Power), which limits power consumption.

Among the compatible models, the new BIOS update can now be installed on ASRock 600 and 700 series motherboards, in addition to the new Z790 launched in October 2023.

The performance gain affects all 14th generation Raptor Lake Refresh processors announced in January, with emphasis on the Core i5-14500, which has increased performance by 10.1% with the CEP disabled.

Check out all the compatible models below and the performance gains in each one:

  • Core i9-14900: +3,9%
  • Core i7-14700: +10%
  • Core i5-14600: +5,1%
  • Core i5-14500: +10,1%
  • Core i5-14400: +0,4%
  • Core i5-14100: +1%

Analyzing the numbers, we can see that the performance gain will be notable mainly for users of mid-range CPUs, which should benefit those who have ASRock B660 and B760 motherboards, as they are great value for money.
