The Autonomous Water and Electricity Distribution Authority of Marrakech (RADEEMA) continues its actions, in all directions, to ensure the rational use of drinking water in particular, in a context marked by climatic challenges major and water stress that the Kingdom is experiencing.
Thus, RADEEMA has put in place an action plan broken down into several axes aimed, among other things, at ensuring the continuous supply of the Ocher City with drinking water, at diversifying the sources of supply of this vital commodity, and to guarantee the most optimal management possible of the drinking water network, by mobilizing significant financial resources for the renewal and upgrading, each year, of the water pipes.
In this sense, the Régie has invested in a program relating to increasing the efficiency of the drinking water network, which is based on the daily and continuous monitoring of the distribution network and the detection and repair of apparent water leaks according to an annual action plan which covers all districts of Marrakech.
To do this, RADEEMA mobilizes dozens of specialized teams while opting for ultra-modern technological tools allowing it to inspect more than 10 km of pipes per day and more than 4,000 km per year.
“As part of the fight once morest the repercussions of drought and the water stress that our country has experienced in recent years, RADEEMA is undertaking an action plan aimed in particular at securing the permanent supply of the Ocher City with drinking water, and ensure the rationalization of this vital commodity,” explained Abbid Abdessatar, Head of Networks and Control Division at RADEEMA, in a statement to MAP.
To this end, RADEEMA has mobilized significant budgets allowing the renewal of drinking water canals, i.e. approximately 30 km of drinking water supply pipes renewed per year, he specified.
The actions of RADEEMA, continues Mr. Abbid, also relate to increasing the efficiency of the drinking network, which is mainly based on the daily verification and continuous maintenance of the distribution network, the repair of apparent damage affecting the network and the detection of non-apparent water leaks according to an annual program which covers all districts of the city.
He also emphasized the importance of using unconventional resources (treated wastewater) from the wastewater treatment plant (STEP) for watering the green spaces of Marrakech.
And as part of promoting the culture of rationalization of this vital commodity, the manager did not fail to emphasize that RADEEMA, in partnership with all actors and partners in the sector as well as civil society, is undertaking communication proximity through the organization of awareness campaigns among residents on the importance of preserving and saving water and using it rationally.
The official also called for the combined efforts of all stakeholders in order to best manage this exceptional stage that Morocco is experiencing, and to put an end to certain irresponsible behaviors and practices likely to cause serious damage to the network. of drinking water distribution covering the city, and causing the waste and loss of large quantities of water.
