Algeria ready to export fishing vessels

ORAN – The Minister of Fisheries and Fisheries Production, Ahmed Badani, affirmed, Friday, in Oran that Algeria has acquired technical mastery in the field of construction of fishing vessels and that it is ready for the export.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of his visit to certain stands of the International Fisheries and Aquaculture Show (SIPA), which continues for the second day at the Mohamed Ben Ahmed Congress Center in Oran, the minister stressed that “there is competition and control at the local level in the field of construction of fishing vessels, making Algeria ready for their export.”

In the same context, Mr. Badani indicated that contacts are established with certain African and Arab countries with a view to exporting Algerian-made ships, indicating that great interest is given to this issue with follow-up on the part Algerian diplomatic missions to support economic operators active in this field in their future export operations.

Regarding the fattening of bluefin tuna, he indicated that Algeria aims to create farms to locally fatten its quota of this fish instead of exporting it as is, which would create added value and additional foreign exchange income. .

In this regard, he highlighted the advanced technical studies linked to the fattening of tuna, pointing out that this project requires great mastery on the technical level, particularly with regard to nutrition.

Mr. Badani also informed that Algeria’s quota of bluefin tuna is estimated this year at 2,023 tonnes (compared to 1,650 tonnes last year), while its export made it possible to achieve revenues amounting to 35 million dollars.

Regarding fishing on the high seas, the minister indicated that consultations are underway with a large Mauritanian delegation present at this show concerning fishing in the territorial waters of this country.

As for the granting of licenses to fishing vessels, Ahmed Badani announced that “all ports are saturated”, due to the large and growing number of boats they house (more than 6,000 while they did not exceed the 3,000 ten years ago).

On the other hand, the minister noted that aquaculture is experiencing rapid development, particularly with regard to certain species such as sea bream, sea bass, and in particular red tilapia, whose fry and food are produced locally. .

The 9th edition of SIPA, which is being held this year under the slogan “For sustainable food security” under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was opened Thursday by the Minister of Fisheries and Fisheries Production , Ahmed Badani.

This economic event, organized until next Sunday, by the Algerian Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture, records the participation of 174 national and foreign exhibitors from Europe, Latin America, Africa and countries Arabs.
