In an interview with the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir criticized the agreement with Hamas in the current war in Gaza, and called for the restoration of settlement in Gaza, revealing his plan for the voluntary migration of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
According to Ben Gvir, he considers encouraging Gazans to voluntarily migrate to other places around the world by offering them financial incentives to leave the country “the true humanitarian solution.”
The Israeli Minister of National Security indicated, in the interview, that there are Palestinians ready to discuss this matter, without revealing additional details.
Ben Gvir’s position differs from that of the United States and its allies, who support negotiations to establish a Palestinian state.
Ben Gvir went on to harshly criticize US President Joe Biden, and even accused him of providing aid to Hamas in Gaza.
Ben Gvir said: “Instead of providing us with full support, he is busy providing humanitarian aid and fuel to Gaza,” noting that the aid goes to Hamas.
He added, “If former US President Donald Trump had been in power, the behavior of the United States would have been completely different.”
Ben Gvir’s growing influence poses a challenge to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and risks either international isolation or potential loss of power.
When asked if he was considering toppling the current Netanyahu government, Ben Gvir said he was in no rush to take action that would likely lead to the formation of a left-wing government led by National Unity Party head Minister Benny Gantz, or opposition leader Yair Lapid.
Ben Gvir reiterated his opposition to any agreement to release the 136 detainees held by Hamas, which also includes the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons.
The Israeli Minister of National Security said that Netanyahu “is at a crossroads, and he must choose the direction he will go.”
