Moscow. February 4. INTERFAX.RU – The US House of Representatives will vote next week on a separate bill to provide military assistance to Israel, reports on Saturday CNN.
“Next week, we will consider and pass a separate additional aid package for Israel,” the letter quotes House Speaker Mike Johnson.
The bill would include $17.6 billion in military aid to Israel, as well as “essential funding for US military forces in the Middle East region.”
Johnson assured that the aid package will be drawn up in such a way that the Democratic majority in the Senate will have no arguments once morest its approval.
He called on the Senate to quickly consider a bill to provide a separate aid package to Israel and stressed the need to abandon the idea of tying aid to Israel to other issues, in particular aid to Ukraine.
At the same time, the Senate is working on a bill on additional funding in several directions at once: we are talking regarding assistance to Israel, Ukraine, and strengthening the southern border of the United States. However, as CNN notes, the prospects for its passage “remain in doubt” due to the negative attitude towards the bill from Republicans who hold the majority in the House of Representatives.
Last fall, the US administration sent a request to Congress to allocate additional funds to provide further assistance to Ukraine and Israel. Republicans in Congress have demanded a significant tightening of immigration measures in exchange for support for a $110 billion package that includes funds for military aid to Ukraine and Israel. Since then, representatives of both parties in Congress have been trying to reach a consensus on this issue.
