Dallas: Four people were killed in a crash on the Interstate 35E ramp near downtown Dallas early Thursday morning during a police chase in Irving. Four people were in the vehicle the officers were chasing, officials said.

The crash forced police to close the Woodall Rogers exit ramp on southbound I-35E. The Continental Exit of northbound I-35E is also closed. Irving police said the chase began around 2 a.m. in the 3200 block of North Belt Line Road.

He found the stolen vehicle and tried to stop it but the vehicle took off. Irving police pursued the vehicle until the speeding vehicle lost control and crashed. The vehicle went off the ramp onto Woodall Rodgers and all four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene, said Irving police spokesman Anthony Alexander. The names of those killed in the crash have not been released.

Alexander declined to provide more details regarding the officers’ pursuit of the vehicle, but noted that the Irving Police Department’s policy allows officers to pursue stolen vehicles.

“A Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in the arm but was treated and released when the suspects’ vehicle hit a light pole that fell onto I-35. “It’s a strange thing that the light pole fell down and he hit it,” Dallas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Sisk said.
