On February 1, Ukraine announced that it had destroyed a missile boat belonging to the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Ukrainian military intelligence released a video showing the marine drone attack carried out once morest the boat. On the last six month, six Russian boats were shot down in a similar manner by Ukraine.
Of the Russian missile boat the Ivanovets, only a tip remains which sinks steeply into the water of the Black Sea. This February 1, Ukraine broadcast images of an attack it carried out once morest a Russian missile launcher, positioned off the coast of Crimea. In the Ukrainian military intelligence video, the Russian military ship was unable to resist repeated assaults by Ukrainian marine drones. After an attempted defense, several large explosions led to the destruction of the ship.
Russia has not made an official comment and has not reported damage to one of its boats, but a Telegram channel close to the Russian military reported a vessel “damaged”.
According to Ukraine, the attack was carried out while the Ivanovets ship was patrolling at sea, off Crimea and the area of Lake Donuzlav, on the west coast of the Ukrainian peninsula, occupied by Russia. The presence of this boat in this location suggests that the Russian fleet maintains ships there, despite announcements which instead reported a deportation of ships towards the Russian coast.
Dating from 1989 and 56 meters long, this star is equipped in particular with four Moskit supersonic anti-ship cruise missile launch systems, according to a website of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. There would be between 40 and 50 men on board. Last July, the Russian Ministry of Defense presented this star as “one of the key elements of patrol around Odessa” to prevent grain ships from taking wheat out of Ukraine.
