To Comorosfollowing the presidential election of January 14, 2024, the results proclaiming the victory in the first round of the outgoing head of state, Azali Assoumaniare contested by the opposition.

After filing an appeal once morest the provisional results of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni), the opposition also expressed its disagreement following the declarations of the electoral chamber of the Supreme Court.

From now on, the opposition is continuing its actions by starting, from February 2, 2024, a tour on the ground. The objective of this approach is to initiate the mobilization of the population with a view to canceling the contested elections, in the hope of organizing a new vote.

This tour will cover the entire territory. The main objective for Azali Assoumani’s five opponents is to show their solidarity and mobilize their supporters.

Mouigni Baraka Saïd Soilihi, candidate in the recent presidential election, declares: “ As you know, this is not the first time that Azali has organized putsches [Azali Assoumani avait pris le pouvoir aux Comores, suite à un coup d’État en avril 1999, Ndlr]. So the five opposition candidates agreed to remobilize the population. Tomorrow, we will pay tribute to the grave of the young martyr Mouslim Ahmed who was assassinated 24 hours following the results of the first round. »

This young person was shot and killed by the police near Moroni during the clashes which followed the announcement of the provisional results.

« The solution for us is the people »

The former governor of Ngazidja insists on the crucial role of the population: “ The solution for us is the people. We do not exclude, of course, the will of the international community. As we have always said: we do not recognize the results, we do not recognize that there were elections. But all this is first and foremost the business of the Comorians and we count more on the people than on other people. »

The camp of Bourhane Hamidou, another presidential candidate, affirms that this tour is also an opportunity to thank the people for having, “ massively rejected Azali and the mobilization must not weaken until the latter’s departure ».
