A broad coalition of the left, sports associations and media is opposed to the reduction in the radio-TV license fee. She warns of drastic consequences for public service. For the bourgeois camp and the economy, the reduction does not go far enough.

According to the wishes of the Federal Council, the radio-TV license fee should increase from 335 francs per year per household currently to 300 francs from 2029. The turnover allowing an exemption for companies is revised upwards, by 500 ‘000 francs to 1.2 million. Nearly 63,000 companies would have to pay less.

With these proposals, the government intends to counter the “200 francs is enough” initiative. Consultation on changing the order ended on Thursday.

The SSR estimates that the project would lead to a reduction in revenue of around 240 million francs and the elimination of 900 positions within the company. The right believes, on the contrary, that the project is going in the right direction, but would like to further exempt companies.
