This Thursday, February 1, Car and Motorcycle Free Day takes place in Bogotá, the first day of this year. The measure began at 5:00 am and will end at 9:00 pm; During that time, the circulation of all types of private cars will be prohibited.
Bogota residents will be able to travel by different means of public transportation, such as TransMilenio, SITP and taxis. In addition, it is also a day in which citizens are invited to use alternative means of transportation such as bicycles and skateboards.
The initiative aims to stop around 1.85 million vehicles and 430,000 motorcycles from circulating in the capital.
Although this initiative is aimed at improving Bogotá’s air quality and thereby protecting the health of citizens, this measure also generates concern among people who use their private vehicle or app services, such as Uber, to get around.
