Flu Epidemic Intensifying in France: Vaccination Campaign Extended | Public Health Update

On Wednesday, Public Health France announced that “the flu epidemic is intensifying in France” and continues in several overseas territories. Consequently, the vaccination campaign, which targets in particular those over 65, has been extended until February 29.

The health authorities want to be vigilant. Wednesday January 31, Public Health France announces that the flu epidemic which had already spread throughout the metropolis in mid-January, “intensifies in France”. Between January 22 and 28, “all indicators were up sharply in community medicine and hospitals in all age groups”. Furthermore, overseas, the epidemic continues in Guyana, Guadeloupe and Martinique but has ended in Mayotte, notes the health organization.

In this context, the vaccination campaign, which targets in particular those over 65, has been extended by one month by the health authorities. Initially scheduled until January 31, it must now last until February 29.

On the other hand, the situation is calming down for two other major respiratory epidemics: the bronchiolitis epidemic (which mainly affects babies) no longer concerns any metropolitan region even if some remain at a post-epidemic stage. As for Covid, the indicators are falling or remaining stable, and Public Health France notes that “positivity rates have decreased in the city and in hospitals”.
