Vision Pro: battery cable is removable and has a Lightning connector

The first units of the Apple Vision Pro are already in the hands of testers and a notable feature was highlighted by Ray Wongdo Inverse. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he showed that it is possible to remove the battery cable with a key to eject the chip tray.

In the photo released by Wong, it is possible to see that, although the connector looks like the Lightning — which is being replaced by USB-C — it is distinctly wider and includes additional contact points, such as noticed by 9to5Mac.

I used a SIM card ejector to “unlock” the cable connected to the pack of the Apple Vision Pro. It came out easily.

According to the website, Apple designed this cable to be removable with ease of maintenance in mind. Even if the battery is not attached to the device, being able to remove the cable has this advantage in case of problems.

This issue would also be in line with Apple’s environmental commitment — potentially reducing waste by avoiding replacing entire units if individual components fail.

Battery cannot be replaced during use

Another point that is drawing attention concerns the battery of the headset itself. The “problem” is the impossibility of replacing it while the headset is used, so that, when changing it, the device will restart.

The battery, which connects to the headset via its own connector and has a USB-C port for charging, There is an additional cost of US$200 for those who wish to purchase an extra unit. ????

The headset offers up to two hours of autonomy in normal use and up to 2.5 hours for 2D video playback, according to Apple — but there are already reports from reviewers who managed to achieve up to three hours of use on a single charge.

Officially, the Apple Vision Pro will only hit shelves in the United States this Friday, February 2nd, costing from US$3,5 mil. The product, however, has been in the pre-sale phase since January 19th.
