The test results were not surprising. There was no “real” screen burn-in, where content is permanently imprinted on the screen. However, following a long period of high-brightness testing, the pixel brightness significantly weakened when facing greater pressure. Especially when presenting HDR content, the followingimage was very obvious and might not be completely removed. In contrast, SDR content does not leave any followingimages that interfere with the normal gaming experience.
It is understood that the main reason for this phenomenon is that lower brightness levels put less pressure on pixels, consume less power (SDR 2W, HDR 5W), and generate less waste heat. Therefore, for those who want to extend the life of their Steam Deck OLED screen, turning down the screen brightness is a simple and effective solution.
