Florida A&M falls 79-60 to Jackson State
TALLAHASSEE, FL —Ahriahna Grizzle scored 29 points and Olivia Delancy added 20, but the Florida A&M women’s basketball team fell to the Jackson State Tigers 79-60 at home Monday.
The Rattlers (4-14, 3-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Grizzle, who had 29 points and three steals. Delancy added 20 points and six rebounds and Ivet Subirats chipped in as well with 11 points and four assists.
How It Happened
Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 22-17 at the end of the first quarter.
Florida A&M then cut the Tigers lead to 23-22 before going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Delancy, to take a 27-23 lead. The Tigers cut into that lead, but the Rattlers still enjoyed a 34-33 advantage heading into halftime. Florida A&M forced six Jackson State turnovers in the period and turned them into eight points.
Florida A&M then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Tigers 56-50 entering the fourth.
Florida A&M might not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 79-60.
Florida A&M gets 30 bench points in 88-86 victory over Jackson State
The Florida A&M men’s basketball team got a 30-point performance from the bench on the way to an 88-86 victory once morest the Jackson State Tigers at home Monday.
The Rattlers (4-14, 2-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Keith Lamarwho had 27 points. Jordan Chatman tacked on 15 points from the bench and Shannon Grant chipped in as well with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Florida A&M took advantage of excellent ball movement in Monday’s game, piling up 22 assists on 31 made field goals. Roderick Coffee III’s seven assists were the most for the Rattlers and Jalen Speer also contributed with six assists of his own.
How It Happened
After playing to a 23-23 tie, Florida A&M went on a 10-0 run with 5:26 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Lamar, to take a 33-23 lead. The Rattlers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 37-27 advantage. Florida A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 37 points close to the basket.
Florida A&M kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 73-60 with 5:49 to go in the contest. The Tigers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 88-86 win. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 51 total points.
